No one is above reproach but acting like you know anything about his "system" or his "will for consistency" is silly. It's been HALF OF ONE season with literally the worst roster (proven) in the history of the NBA. 50 games in and we haven't won a championship doesn't mean he doesn't have a winning system.

Stephen Silas may have a hand in the development of the guards, but its under Dunlap.
If you revisit history, you'd know that Pop's squad the year he only won 17 games lost David Robinson and Sean Elliot to injuries. They got the first overall pick and used it to draft Tim Duncan. We all know what happened after that. Pop had already established himself in San Antonio's front office before assuming coaching duties. He's a much different case and far superior coach to Dunlap. I say winning system because those other guys all have won. And notice I didn't say Dunlap can't develop into a winner too. I just said the system he is currently using now is producing underwhelming results. He shouldn't be fired this year, won't be fired this year, and I am not in favor of him being fired this year. But this cult of personality around Dunlap that makes him immune to criticism is equally ridiculous to people calling for his head.
    Show you?
I posted stats that clearly illustrate we have awful team chemistry. We get out rebounded by a wider margin (despite not taking the least rebounds of all NBA teams, we allow opponents to take more), have the least assists, give up more assists to the other team, and have the lowest field goal percentage in the NBA. Revisit those stats you called "irrelevant" earlier. We all have seen this team play. The only consistent thing about our rotations is that Dunlap is consistently changing them. For all this talk of him being a "developmental" coach, I'd say not allowing team chemistry to develop is a pretty big problem. We don't have the best roster in the NBA, but it doesn't help when the guys still aren't used to playing with each other. Neither party should be completely blamed nor should either be free of blame. It seems like a lot of people want to give Dunlap a pass.
You've been a Bobcat fan as long as I have and a member of this board for longer. Please tell me when this fan base has not freely commented on what they are seeing on the court at any point in the season. How much leeway did we give Sam Vincent before labeling him as the incompetent crony hire that he was? (**Please note I am not comparing Vincent to Dunlap; I'm comparing the way we as a fan base were critical of them**) All my comments are based on the games I watch combined with the statistics that are clearly displayed online. It's not "silly" to be critical of a guy who treats our bench like a grab bag. You can't throw out new lineups over and over again throughout both the course of the game and the course of the season then expect compete at the level of other teams or to win games. Chemistry takes time to build and it is still something we clearly lack. Why else can other lottery teams roll over us? Yes, we do not have an all star team and are clearly not a contender. But we do have a roster full of players who are in the highest level of competition for the sport in the entire world. These guys aren't complete bums and half of them weren't even here last year. They shouldn't be the ones who take all the blame for why we are preforming at the level we are.

It's easy to have a winning system when you have guys like David Robinson

I clearly have repeated that next year, pending that we improve the roster this summer as expected, will be a more telling year for what type of coach Dunlap is. But it doesn't take a David Robinson, or a Grant Hill, or a Paul Pierce to develop firm and consistent rotations to use on a nightly basis. He hasn't done that, yet for some reason the fact we have statistics that display awful teamwork on offense and defense is completely not his fault, because our roster isn't made up of NBA talent but a bunch of scrubs.
    Or so I've been told.

A couple of things from trolling through these pages of Dunlap rants and babble

    1) Swedd I disagree that just because your a coach that everyone should do what they say and not answer back. I am a soccer coach to a high level in England and run 3 of my own teams, you can't just expect to command respect, you have to speak to your players with respect and run the entire team in a fair respectful way. I also have experience running losing teams and I can assure you that tensions are greater and fuses or shorter. When a team is losing you have to be extra careful, players are looking for someone to blame and will be constantly frustrated by the situation they are in.

    2) One major differences to the other coaches being mentioned like Pop, Doc and others is that the Bobcats are a losing team... Those guys have both endured a bad season, but the franchise was never bad for as long as the cats had been so not as much frustration had been built up. Those guys can all get away with being hard on their players as they have now proven that their way works, they have won championships. Dunlap has done nothing... He has to earn the respect of the players and I can telly you from experience once you go into a new setup to a level that you haven't coached at before players are watching you. They need to be shown something to be able to trust what your saying is right... Now so far that hasn't come through wins, but more through improvement of the younger guys, after all that's what Dunlap was hired for. How must this make people like Ben Gordon feel tho? He knows he isn't wanted here, his minutes are down, he is living in a small market... All these things will give him a bad taste, but not all are Dunlap's fault.

I just think you working on a different playing field. You are using stats and talking about lineups as if the team is supposed to be winning games this year. The way I see it, new lineups every night and weird substitution patterns are completely normal right now. Feeling out the roster, seeing who does what in what situations. Seeing how player A responds to bench time yada yada yada. If we were a playoff team, it'd be a different story. We arent. At this point we don't know anything about a system. We don't know anything about our players really. We need to be switching and changing and seeing what works and when, not worrying about meaningless wins. We are performing at a better more competent level than last year and the players that are widely regarded as young core guys are all making strides in their own personal games. Whats the point in working on chemistry (even though I dont think we have a chemistry problem at all) when you are as far away from the playoffs as a roster as is possible?

I don't think Dunlap deserves a pass, but I also don't think he needs one. He's doing exactly what he should be doing so far.

Bens a loser. Thanks for the draft pick

Dunlap gave him every opportunity to be the star closer guy and he fucked it up almost every single time with horrible turnovers/dumb plays/horrible defense.

He's just frustrated because he's finally realizing how much he sucks at basketball

You just said a whole lot of nothing to the point.

Things may be handled different over on your island, but here in America (at least in the south), you are taught to respect your elders, teachers, coaches, bosses, and other figures of authority. It doesn't matter the circumstances or any other factor.

Backtalk your mom? Mom whoops your ass. Disrespect your teacher? Mom whoops your ass. Don't do what your coach says? Whole team runs suicides, team whoops your ass, then mom whoops your ass.

Ben is the player. His role in the franchise is to listen to the coaches and do what they say. When the coach says shut up while I'm talking, guess what? He needs to shut his bum ass up and listen to the coach. There is no excuse. He's wrong.

    Default Dunlap has to go!

I don't mean to disrespect anyone, but you can't just simplify it like that Swedd, the relationship between a Coach and a players Is a complicated one, trust me on this one coaching is what I do!

It really can be simplified like that though.

I played football, baseball, soccer, basketball, and ran cross country on various levels as I grew up. We learned at a very young age to do what the coach says. "Eyes up, ears open". I've disagreed with coaches on numerous occasions, but I was only stupid enough to back talk a coach once.

It was one of my friend's dads. We had one of those "complicated" relationships outside the team because I spent enough time around him to be on good terms. I was goofing off outside the huddle trying to stand on a soccer ball for as long as I could and he said something to the effect of "stop that mess and pay attention" (similar to Dunlap and Ben). I said, "hold on I almost got it". I spent the next 5 minutes getting chewed out for disrespect, the ~30 minutes after that running laps and had to stand there while he had a talk with my mom, and I already told you what happens when you get home.

You can have your cute little complicated relationship with the players all you want. This isn't a Disney movie. When you step on that court/field, that stuff goes out the window because it's time to get down to business. It doesn't matter if you hate the coach or don't give one hoot what he has to say. You shut up and do what you're told. The way I grew up says Ben is way wrong and is lucky to have not been Paul Silased.

    We'll just have to disagree.

    In summary...

    1) Maggs was going to sit on our bench hurt most of the season

    2) Cho turns Maggs into a 1st round draft pick and contract belonging to Gordon

    3) Cho tells Dunlap to develop the young guys without blatantly throwing games

    4) Dunlap gives Gordon plenty of opportunities, Gordon has mixed results and earns more bench time

    5) Gordon turns into a self-centered 3rd grader and throws a tantrum

    Present day

    6) Cho somehow moves Gordon's contract before the start of next season

    7) Gordon does interview w/ blogger about how the Cats coaching staff disrespected and undermined him while he was in Charlotte

TMZ uncovers that Gordon is actually Larry Brown's long lost son
