Yep, and most fans will say it's jus lack of effort and haphazardly drifting away from players on the perimeter.

Dunlaps' defensive system for this team packs the paint because the bigs are so poor on both ends of the floor, and naturally gives up a bunch of threes. Unfortunately, open threes are one of the most efficient shots in basketball. If Dunlap doesn't defend the three point line better once the big man rotation is upgraded that will be a much more legitimate criticism of his coaching than simply being angry he isn't winning more with a terrible roster.

Weren't we involved in some Larry Sanders rumors this year? Would have been nice to add the statistical best interior defender in the league to this roster.

We help to much on defense. We never give our guys a chance to play people straight up. Its the same reason we give up so many assists. Teams that make the extra pass just pass away from our spastic double teams. It is 100% terrible coaching.

honestly don't see the point on helping 24/7. Didn't we draft 2 players this year that are supposedly the best 2 on ball defenders in the draft?

In the paint. The wings/guards have been drilled from early on about helping Biz & Mully...so even when they should let those guys go one on one they get stuck in no man's land.

This is why we need to play Haywood more often then.

Haywood's not a good defender, either. He was five years ago, but he's become another big stiff in the middle. This years' roster is pretty hopeless when it comes to interior defense.

there was one last night that made me almost break something. MKGs guarding a guy at the top of the key and sessions for no reason starts slowly moving toward him as if to cut off the driving lane and it just leaves Deron wide open in the corner for a 3. the simplest play ever to get probably the most effective shot in bball just to prevent a 1 on 1 drive against mkg. i dont understand what we're thinking in those situations.

let Biz come over and help. everyone doesnt need to be trying to guard everyone.

Yeah I'm kind of surprised just how bad Haywood has been this year. Granted I didn't keep up with him...but he has really been pathetic.

My guess is that when we started the year it was drilled into the guard's heads that we MUST sag in and help with the interior D...mainly because we SUCKED at that all of last season and it was a glaring weakness coming in. IMO Biz has gotten better and adding guys like Adrian has firmed it up a little. The problem is that the guards can't get out of the mindset of always looking to help.

Either that or we just suck at D.

Here's a good thread from RoF with some examples with vids of our breakdown on D vs. Kanter & the Jazz:
