I think it would be a great way for Jordan to honor our past and bring it together with our present and future. This would show he is connected to the city and listens to the community, and can bring back former players to be involved with the team/community again as well.
It's really a shame that those guys haven't already been honored in Charlotte but, I guess it would have looked weird with Hornets Jersey's in the rafters while they were still in New Orleans but, now that the name will either be used in Charlotte or not at all, I think it would make perfect sense to have a night honoring those guys no matter what our nickname is going forward.
you guys may be right, but I don't see them using any of the old stuff unless the history/records are brought back here. Just my opinion. I think there is an off chance that they'd honor some of the old players or something one night but I don't believe it would be ingrained into the arena experience with out the "rights to the history" so to speak.
I am one of many current New Orleans Hornets fans who believes that as soon as we rebrand after our last game, the hornets name should return to its true home. As you know, simply to run from his problems. (although I am very glad this happened because we got a team of our own out of it) George Shinn moved this team to new Orleans, without making any change to the name. But our name should've been changed upon arival to the crescent city. The hornets name had been woven into charlotte culture and should've been given back to you. Although I and many others have gained great memories of Hugo, and watching games at the hive, it feels good to finally get a name of our own. We finally wont be confused with charlotte, and we will finally have a name that represents our great city. So from pelicans nation to bobcats nation, I sincerely hope you get this name back. Its a great name, and it belongs in charlotte. You guys deserve this name
Regardless, I don't think it would hinder any kind of reunion/homecoming, at least it shouldn't. There's no way Zo would do it and I doubt LJ would but I'd at least give LJ a chance; Zo will do anything for the city of Charlotte when hell freezes over; he's a Miami man and like I said when he was traded, good riddance.
Dell, obviously, and Muggsy are a given to be there, and I'd be happy with whoever else they could wrangle up. It would/will be a magical night.
"The Charlotte Hornets name has been a mainstay throughout the region for many years, and we are excited to announce our intention to re-establish this historic brand. We believe that its return will galvanize our fan base by unifying our loyal Bobcats fans with those who have strong memories of our city's NBA predecessor." MJ, 5-21-13
Why would they give up 14 years of their existence (and most of their positive historical relevance along with it) just because? No more attendance records, no more LJ/Zo/Muggsy, not to mention losing all of those wins and playoffs appearances.
Benson wouldn't and won't. You guys should and likely will get the name back though. The rights to the history are owned by Benson now. If they were owned by me, I would take your plan and start our history at 2002. But that likely will not happen.
Like I said, it doesn't really matter to me as long as we get the name but, have you ever celebrated Muggsy, Dell, Kelly Tripukca, LJ, Zo, or Glen Rice? I wouldn't think so and even if we don't get the stats it still wouldn't stop us from honoring them for what they accomplished in CLT.
