extremely interesting article. Don't know if you guys already knew, but dragons, flight, and cougars were all the losing names that lost out in the final decison. Flight has a really cool logo design on here.
a bobcats ticket rep just called into my office. i fished for some inside info a bit. i was kinda surprised that his tone toward the possibility was actually pretty negative. he said people don't really understand how much it would cost to re do your entire brand and it would take a pretty significant survey result as far as spending habits to justify it on paper. not just securing the name which would already be an expensive process, but changing every little detail from changing out everything that says Bobcat on it in the arena to the marketing campaign they'd have to do, redesigning literally everything in the business.
he then asked me "well, would you come out to games if they were the hornets?"
i told him it wouldnt matter to me at all, just want a team that isnt embarrassing to watch 8/10 nights
Also, I, like most of the people on here, periodically look at the team store and you would think they would be winding down Bobcats product lineup. Instead I'm seeing more and more new shirts/hoodies/hats coming out. I think this is another sign they've made up their mind on the name change.
Why wouldn't they? Because it's meaningless to NO. I mean, the Pelican fan says as much. They're "giving up" 14 years, but they've got a solid 10 going on 11 years which is something. Hell, they can keep attendance records if they like but I don't see Benson hanging his hat on that particular nugget, if he even realizes he has it.
Benson is the face of New Orleans sports, he owns both their major pro sports franchises, and obviously wants to leave his mark and the state's mark on the NBA team, therefore the name change. Seems to me he wouldn't want anything that didn't happen in his city in his records books.
As for the other flimflam: Fuck Gustav! North Carolina is "First in Flight". And anyway, Bridgeport or Kill Devil Hills? Which sounds more badass? S'what I thought!

its not a matter of Benson giving it back. Its a matter of money and possibly the NBA not wanting market confusion. I'm glad my city got a team. Because I am probably the most diehard fan you can find in hornets nation. But I'm sorry you guys lost a brand you love. Don't give up. It still could happen. Just maybe not as soon as you though. When wins come, the big bobcats brass might want to make the investment, and I see that happening.
