Hear me out...
The ultimate goal of ownership should be to put together a team capable of playing for the NBA championship correct? And we all know you win in this league with superstar players. other than the Chauncey billups, Raheed Wallace Pistons, every NBA champ over the last 20 years has had at least one and more often than not two superstars.
With that in mind, why would we declare any player or piece untradeable or part of our future if we have yet to secure our first top 15 type player? While I like Kemba, MKG, and Biyambo as young guys, I would not be averse to trading one of them along with a pick to get that star player we need. I also would not hesitate to do something like trade Kemba for the 6th pick IF I felt someone like Marcus Smart had the ability to become a top 5 point guard which Kemba does not. I could then turn around and use that 6th pick on someone like Vitor Olidipo.
None of the guys on this current roster with maybe the exception of MKG have (in my opinion) the ability to become a top 10 player at their position. With that in mind, doesn't it make sense to say no spot is safe? And that if we feel any player in a trade or draft could be a top player at their position, we won't hesitate to make that move?
I feel like because we drafted some of these guys, we feel an overwhelming sense of loyalty to guys who ultimately don't have the ability to bring a winner to Charlotte. For the next several years we need to take sentiment out of the equation and do what it takes to bring a winner here regardless of personal feelings or any sense of attachment we have to guys we took in the draft.
There are some very talented point guards in this draft along with who I think is going to be a really good shooting guard in this league in Olidipo. If we pass them up because we feel some sense of loyalty to Kemba and Henderson, then we are making a mistake. let's not try to fill a need this draft and offseason. Let's just go about getting the best possible players regardless of position and add some top line talent to this team.
