Bob Bass took the short term approach because he traded what everyone knew was a high potential draft pick for a 28 year old center who was a talented player but, far from a franchise cornerstone (sound familar?) Also LJ, Zo, andGill were all gone by the time they drafted Kobe..... Kobe would have played here (atleast through his rookie contract)- his comments were all about leverage... What was he gonna do? Sit out an entire season only to enter the draft again and hope that every team except the Lakers decided not to draft him?
1 more year of showing financial constraint and landing a top 5 pick will help our franchise way more than signing Al Jefferson, winning 15 extra games this season, taking up valuable cap space, and losing our 1st round pick next season would.
I want a ring too, but the way we draft and fly through coaches, the Cubs will get there quicker than we will. Also Tyreke Evans who has very similar stats to Gerald Henderson last year has been offered a 4 year $40-44 million contract by the Pelicans...If Gerald gets that, I don't see us paying that.
Evans: 31 MPG---15.2 PPG---47.8% FG%---33.8% 3P%---4.4 RPG---3.4 APG---1.4 SPG
Henderson: 31.4 MPG---15.5 PPG---44.7% FG%---33.0% 3P%--3.7 RPG---2.6 APG--1.0 SPG
I am tired of reading this crap..... If we tank this year we will be better with a top 5 pick next year, if we tank next year we will be better with a top 5 pick in 2015, if we tank the next year we will be better with a top 5 pick in 2016....... Come on
It has nothing to do with individual players. Top 5 picks are valuable assets. Go find me another team out there willing to give their top 5 pick up for Al Jefferson and we can talk.
If Randle is the player we are lucky enough to get, then we take him and run and be happy as hell about it. But say Zeller is the truth and we don't necessarily need Randle, another team out there does need him and will be willing to deal something large to get him. It has nothing to do with Wiggins, Parker or Randle... it has everything to do with a valuable pick being the easiest most cost effective way we can gain assets.
Into the crevasse!
