It appears Al Jefferson has an entire week dedicated to fundraising for his hometown. I stumbled across this in my newsfeed on Facebook because Big K.R.I.T. just announced he is the the TBA artist preforming Friday.
Utah Jazz starting Center Al Jefferson is the sort of person and player who remembers where he came from. That's why he continues to give back.
For two consecutive summers, Big Al has conducted a free summer camp for the children of his hometown of Prentiss, Mississippi, as well as the neighboring communities. Jefferson Davis County, where Al was born, raised, and still resides for much of the offseason, is the second poorest county in the state. Changes in the local economy have left jobs scarce, and resources for children hard to come by.
In the summer of 2010, boys and girls had a chance to participate in the four day camp, which was highlighted by a Family Fun Day that included giant bouncers, food, and a good time for all. Al also partnered with Feed the Children, a non-profit organization that provides meals to families that need them the most. He also donated a basketball court to Prentiss High School, where he made his name as a young player.
Information for Al's 2011 camp will be posted here on his web site, AlJefferson25.com, prior to next summer.5th ANNUAL AL JEFFERSON BENEFIT WEEK (7/22-7/28 2013)

You know dudes from the dirty South when he's from Jefferson Davis County Mississippi!

Still don't want him..
Big Al is a refreshing breeze in today's inflated-ego driven NBA. If he'd had better players around him on the Jazz, he'd likely still be there. I think Zeller is the perfect fit at PF; long, agile, and a very high motor with all-round BB skills and IQ.
betcats, are you a big krit fan?
True, Millsap with hard work developed a good all-round offensive game in Utah. However, he's too short (6'8") to defend at PF, got no hops, and is lacking lateral movement to keep up with most NBA PFs. He was little help to Jefferson defensively, which has been Utah's achilles heel the last several years. Yeah, their perimeter D was awful too...
Athletically, Zeller is already beyond where Millsap will ever get. It'll be fun watching Zeller develop. Using him in the high post looked good in Summer League, and I expect him to just get better at it. His defensive movement in Summer League was amazing for a 7' PF, and the guy never seemed to get tired; affected a LOT of shots. Back to back double-doubles to boot...
