why do people say kemba is destined to be some sort of off the bench guard? does anyone say that about kyrie irving or damian lillard? both of those dudes are probably worse at defense than kemba and i can't imagine anyone describing those guys as pass first.
just look at kemba's and lillard's "per 36 minutes," they are basically identical. kemba is only 2 months older than "franchise player/rookie of the year" lillard yet people complain about him non-stop on here because he doesn't fulfill some sort of outdated requirement for them.
point guard defense is overrated anyways with today's rules. tony parker sucks at defense, mario chalmers sucks at defense, curry sucks at defense, ty lawson sucks at defense. the fact that nate robinson can come in and play huge minutes at point without compromising the bulls excellent defense should tell you all you need to know.
now that the team has zeller and big al, let's just sit back and watch for a bit. if kemba consistently struggles performing the pick and roll with those guys then i would say, yes let's talk about this issue. but now is too early to be nitpicking kemba when there were actual problems with this team, things like Hakim Warrick, starting power forward.
