John Wall just got a max deal.
Kyrie Irving will get a max deal.
Not anticipating by any means that this happens... But what kind of numbers would Kemba have to put up this season in order to get into the max contract discussion?

Shooting average - high percentages.
Even still I can't in any way envision him getting a max deal.
Max deals should only be for absolute super stars imo
John Wall is the perfect example of young players receiving max contracts.. John & Kemba's numbers are very similar, but the difference between John and Kemba is the potential factor and that he had an incredible showcase in the last part of the year..No way John gets a max deal if he didn't put on that incredible performance.
Wall averaged 24.0 points, 11.0 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game while shooting .617 from the field, .800 from three-point range and .857 from the free-throw line. That's better than any PG in the league. Not saying he is the best PG but those numbers can't be taken lightly. He also received player of the week in the east.
Another difference between the two is the potential factor. A lot of people doubt Kemba's potential based on his lack of athleticism, which should be a young players strong suit. Not everyone is a great athlete, Kyrie for example has about the same level of athleticism as Kemba. Both aren't going to break the D down and dunk over you like a Westbrook or Wall, but they are both among the fastest players in the league. Kemba needs to average 20+ PPG with around 7-8 AST & 2 STLS for a max contract IMO. That's a huge stretch from what he averaged last year but it can happen..

If Wall deserves a max contract (he probably doesn't) then Kemba does as well.

I see Kemba on one level as Lawson and Holiday, so $11 per would be fair. Though if we can sign him for Mike Conley money, so $8,5 per would be great.
Jennings and Conley in mind.
Kemba is great, I want him as our future PG, HELL I could even see him making an all star game or 2, but he's not a max player.
The market is going to even be tighter ,much tighter when Kemba is restricted . Could see him at 7 to 8 per per year . Only King James types is going to get max money from hear on out.
Anyone who thinks Kemba will ever command a max contract is frankly dreaming.
Kemba can become a very very good player, possibly even a star, but he will never be a superstar.

the question isn't "does kemba deserve a max contract?"
the question is "what would kemba have to do to get in that discussion?"
i think if the team made the playoffs this year, with kemba as the consensus best player (and upping his assists and FG%), and then he had a really, really good series, you would start to hear some rumblings for getting him the max extension over the summer, although he probably wouldn't qualify for the 5 year designated player max, only the 4 year maximum extension.
