But if you just mean fishing for recreation; I recently took my son fishing for his first time in SC (got my SCDNR stickers and 14 day ripoff license).
For years, my friends and I would do annual trip this time of year to OBX (Kill Devil Hills particularly) to night fish on the Oregon Inlet bridge. One of the guys built a halogen lit drop rig and a rolling cage (on pneumatic wheels) that we'd drag the generator and some fuel cans and we'd be out there until dawn most nights. It's really incredible fishing (Oregon Inlet) even during the day. We'd catch striper, red drum, rays, sheepshead, and some other marine life - all of it was rather sizable due to the currents there. Not sure if that bridge is still in tact - last trip was about a decade ago.
Still have yet to try to find places to fish here (CLT) but since my son seemed into it, will definitely be doing so next year. Most of the fishing I have done in NC has been around the Piedmont Triad.
Western Virginia fly and open reel stream fishing however is my favorite yet I no longer have access to the place we'd go. Tremendous fun though.
Think our next adventure will be to take my dad (and my son) to High Rock Lake but admittedly, I have only one experience on that lake and was blanked that day.
