I'm sitting in a hotel room in Lubbock TX watching the Mavs/Pellies. They showed this commercial of Dirk, which is awesome. Woop Woop!
I remember in yr 2 they actually tried to market the players. Felton running with some guy, May crowding someone in an elevator. I liked it. This commercial reminded me of that.
My question is, do relatable players help with ticket sales or is it all a function of winning? Or is it simply star power, of which we generally lack? The NBA does a better job of marketing players better than any league yet the Bobcats eschew that approach. Why?
I am just curious how teams decide to generate interest in a team. Team focus? Player focus? Let the product speak for itself?
If nothing else, watch the commercial. Good stuff.
