Could someone explain the toronto pick we have?

I know we are suppose to have a future top pick from toronto is that for next year or 2008? If we can get a top pick next year a lot of people have us taking Greg Oden or Young. Whats the exact deal if anyone knows.

That pick is lottery protected through 2008 or 2009 ( I\'m too lazy to look up the year right now ). What that means is, we don\'t get the pick this year since its a lottery pick. Next year if the Raptors are in the lottery, we won\'t get it again. If they aren\'t in the lottery then we DO get the pick. In 2008 or 2009, if we haven\'t received the pick by then, then all bets are off. We would get the pick regardless of whether its lottery or not.
