Default Do we even have a pass defense?

Wow last night's game was horrible defensively. We play such a soft defense in the secondary. I assume the coaches feel the Dbacks are too slow to keep up.

The Panthers seem to be running a zone defense on nearly EVERY single play. Good QB's like Brady just tear a D like that apart, and he did.

I've never seen so many open guys only 5 yards across the line of scrimmage.

It was so bad, that I was even saying as soon as the ball was snapped (he's going to this guy). Guys were so open you could see it on TV.

The ONLY time I saw the Panthers plan man to man on D was when the Patriots were in the Red Zone.

Something's definately wrong in the secondary and I'm fearing what it's going to do to the Panthers this season.

It's also great to see how wonderful that zone blocking scheme is doing to help the running game...............Sheez.

Disappointed. That's all I can say.

definitely, the panthers defense has been nonexistent this preseason. hopefully when they put out their whole team (peppers, morgan, rucker) the pass rush will improve and increase qb pressure. if not, we're screwed

Thats one of the things I noticed, Brady wasnt hurried at all last night hardly. The secondary was chasing the recievers all night and the offence sucked. Jake looked so so, Carr didnt look as good as he did last week, the recievers dropped passes. It was horrible and they should feel bad even if it was only pre season.

The defense definitely did not look as tenacious it should be, but hopefully that's just a pre-season thing.

The two things that really worried me were:

    1) Dropped passes. Waaaaay too many dropped passes. That needs to change, and it needs to change quick.

    2) Blocked kicks. Again, hopefully this is just a pre-season thing. Getting kicks blocked left and right is unacceptable at the professional level, period.

Man, that's no joke. I cannot believe how special teams (FG unit) performed. The interior line simply crumbled BOTH times.

I know it's preseason folks but, I have to tell you, they are WAY behind schedule. Remember, the teams they are playing against are also in the preseason. By Week 3 of preseason, you should start looking like a team ready for the season. The starters played almost 3 full quarters. They're really out of sync. They just look undisciplined.

I dont know...........I dont take losing well, and I love love love my Panthers, but I'm getting worried early. It's like "what happened to Jake". This guy was so good early and it's like he's just deteriorating in his talent.

Its like ever since they went to the Super Bowl they have gone backwards, everybody on the team Im talking about. We may have more of a problem than we are thinking but I pray I'm wrong. Go Panthers!

Yeah I mean they've had problems with injuries so I'm not sure until this year we're actually seeing what this team "can" do. The thing that's frustrating is............I honestly believe this is AMONG the most talented teams in the NFL. I really do. However, I think the proper term for the way they are playing is "out of sync". they just all seem to be on different pages.

Running backs go out for passes, and TE's go out for passes and Jake is putting the ball behind them where they can't catch it, OR when he puts it on target they drop it.

The offensive line was decimated against the Pats (at least early, it looked better later).

The zone defense in the secondary was really bothering me. If I see that come Week 1, I'm going to really be worried. I'm hoping that's a preseason thing. If these guys can't effectively run a man to man, bump and run defense, we're screwed. I think really the thing we have going for us, is that the teams in the NFC South are not great passing teams this year (Atlanta without Vick and Tampa looks horrible). The Saints are untested with new receivers so who knows.

I think however the Panthers have A LOT of work to do. Granted it's preseason but the signs are bad at this point.

About all the dropped passes dosent the term "great hands" apply anymore? Sometimes its not all about speed but in how good a guy can catch.

I'd say our pass defense showed up in the 1st game. Holding Bulger down to a 70 qb rating is playing good defense. I was more impressed with us stoping the running game of STL though. Holding Jackson to under 60 yards rushing is something that just doesn't happen. Next to LT he's the best all purpose back in the league.
