Default Great AP article on Dudley

There was a great AP article on Jared Dudley today.

    http://www.theledger.com/article/20071004/APS/710040818

In light of May's injury, and our lack of depth at the 4, Jared Dudley will be in the running for Rookie of the Year this season.

There are still questions about whether he'll be quick enough to defend athletic wings. Dudley welcomes the challenge. He lobbied to guard Wallace and Jason Richardson during training camp practices.
I like his philosophy of trying to always guard either Crash or J-Rich in practice. It makes sense that if he can guard those two then he shouldn't have a problem with anyone elses athleticism in the NBA.

    Ziggy - I totally agree.

A couple other interesting points from this article:

    1. Ryan Hollins has been practicing with the first team all week. That's big news, and it should shake up much of our lineup speculation on this board. Is the core starting 5 Okafor, Wallace, Richardson, Felton and Primoz (since Hollins is stepping in for Primoz this week?) That leaves May on the bench.

    2. Vincent cut Thursday practice short and canceled Friday practice to rest the team. Didn't they just arrive??

    3. Jordan will be there on Friday.

BTW, I wish Mike Cranston would write about the Bobcats all the time. Anyone know any background on this guy (an AP writer)?

We only have so many decent (?) bigs other than Mek so I imagine there's a big hope Hollins can pull some PT.

I have to think Primoz won't be a big favorite of Coach V tho...that's if he really is all about defense.

Heh, got focused into that and ignored the whole article!

Dudley sounds like a heckuva catch at 22, a guy every team needs to do the dirty work. I definitely love that attitude about going after Crash & JRich. No fear and a little bit of attitude. Hope Mek picks up some of that.

I think Dudley will get consistent back up minutes coming off the bench for Crash he seems ready to contribute to our success early like most of hoped he would.

Dudley will contribute this season, cause he has the one core trait that very few NBA players have - he is cerbral. He reminds me alot of David Lee, both are undersized, both lack athleticism, but both have extremeley high basketball IQ's. The result is that David Lee is one of the best rebounders in the competition, and one of the most effective scorers (I'm pretty sure he was number 1 last season in FG %). Now whilst its too high an expectation to see Dudley passing the same feats as Lee, he will contribute, and not give to much away from the team when he steps on the court.

But the main question I was asking from that article is what about Walter? Why not run with a starting front court of Hermann at the 4 and Okafor at the 5? That would bolster that athleticism and quickness over the whole court; which is perfect for Coach Vincent's new system.

A possible answer to the question that was raised a few posts before mine; why has Vincent shortened Thursday morning's training and cancelled Friday's is that from the general gist of what's been reported at the Bobcats' training camp, they aren't actually following the same lines as everyone else. Less focus on scrimmages and more on running drills to gear them up for the season. Is it possible that they'll treat the pre-season as a basic scrimmage session game in game out? And put more emphasis on drills and fitness throughout Training Camp - moreso than every other team?
