    Default Jermareo and Oak articles

I wish I was computer savy enough to provide you with links, but I have to learn how to do that still. Anyway, if someone with the knowledge can do so, there are 2 good little write ups at charlotte.com sports section this afternoon. One is on Jermareo and his surprising development into a strong player for us, and the other is on the slow comings with the extension for Oak. Both are interesting reads.

Howard has clearly done more so far than Okafor and Howard’s potential is huge

    What a f*cking idiot.

Ya, he's done SO much more - which is why EO50 was the RoY

Yeah Big Slam, I was rather taken back by that quote as well. I will not downplay Howard; he is a great young player and is becoming a dominant big man. However, I do not put him head and shoulders over Oak in any way. I thought his statement was over the top. I do agree that our front office is haggling over the extension price, but that is to be expected from an agent. He tries to get the best deal possible. Remember this summer when we were all getting concerned about Gerald and his new contract? Same thing. It will get done. I do not think what someone in Utah is doing plays into this too much. I honestly feel that the Suits are trying to get Oak for around $13 mil a year. He wants max, so we will likely go a hair higher, but not to $14. That's my guess.

The ONLY thing keeping Mek from a max deal is injury concerns...which IS legitimate.

Bonnell's always had a hardon for Howard. Wonder if we can work a trade of sportswriters with the Magic?

Oh, I agree ohara831. I like Howard and really enjoy watching him play - but EO50 is a better defender and shot blocker and protects the ball a LOT better. He is also (while still raw) a more natural offensive player.

Howard is bigger, younger and more agressive though.

Either way, it's statments like this that makes it no suprise why Bonnell is on the outs with our front office and most players.

BigSlam you got it right on man. Okafor was the freakin ROY. Hes more dependable, more consitent, and so far fairly equal in the stats department... despite not being the only thing going for his team.

I think Howard is gonna be a dominant big man and a thorn in our side for years(at least until his contract is up and Orlando cant pay him cause they went broke signing Lewis!) But right now hes not a clear better player. And Bonnell can eat one.

I do have to admit that Howard looks like hes ready to dominate this year. Just early on he looks freakin tough to stop. In China today... he looked scary good. but its preseason. your a winner with either player.

the way i see it. We got David Robinson. they got shaq

Howard has been an all-star if i'm not mistaken. no man in his right mind thinks okafor is an all around better player than howard, howards offense is much better (except his FT% is about equal), is a better rebounder, and about the same (a little less) in blocked shots. okafor will probably get the same type of deal that howard did tho, but i'd take howard any day, that's why the magic did in '04 haha

Bonnell is such a 2nd rate writer. I'm sick of him and all his articles rooting for other teams and players.

In keeping with my refusal to read anything by this Bonnell character, I'm only going by what you guys say, but I'm in agreement that Howard is not so much better than Mek. Howard has the edge in scoring and rebounding, Mek has the edge on overall D, but neither is that much better than the other. This is a rare, maybe the only case in draft history, that the 1 and 2 picks are both as good as advertised. Just remebered, '92 with Shaq and Zo is another instance. Not bad company to keep!
