Default Do We Make A Move?

The other day, we were talking about SAR (Rahim) with the Kings. They have been talking of moving him. Work is that since Orlando got the NBA exception and can get a 16th man, they may be going after him. That would give them 3 rather formidable people up front. They or course are leading out division and we need help up front with Okafor.
My questions is: Do we package someone with a pick and go try to get SAR? If not just for out team's own needs, to prevent Orlando from taking up a 3rd big man who can help them on the front line.
I am not suggesting we do the move. I am just wanting to see how many differing views BobcatsPlanet has on the matter and if it is overwhlmingly one sided. Honestly, even tho he just had surgery a few months ago, the guy is avg. over 18 a game for his career. he's not old, so I'd think he has something left in the tank for a few more years.

831 , Good for thought im not as big on him as you . I still have health concerns . And his age is starting to factor in my mind. Yes hes needed and we need to make a move early befor OK50 goes down . And he will if he keeps getting forced to play over 40 mins per this year.

I would still like to get some one who can get up and down court and can blend in age wize with the team .

My 1st choice of atainable players is Frye, next it's Charlie. V. If we had no shot at either then persuing him might be ok as we need a big.

    Thanks Ammofan!

DAv7z: I would love Charlie V. but I dont think Bucks will let him go yet. They can replace him with Yi, so they might. Could be worth looking at that possibility. I cannot see Blazers letting Frye go. He is too young and too good to trade for what we have to offer.
SAR is only 30, not an old fart at all. I was thinking we could trade Herrmann and maybe add a 2nd for him. They may even take Herrmann straight up. He is an expiring Contract, correct? If Kings really want SAR gone, that would be a steal for us if he does get back in form. I mean. 18.5 pts per game can be very helpful. We would not be losing too much as we are not playing Herrmann anyway. I do not know the deal as to why, but Coach seems to have a bug up his ass when it comes to Walter.
Interesting point: Herrmann is 6'9 225 lbs and listed as a F. SAR is 6'9 and 245 lbs and listed as a PF-C. If we played him at the 4 and Okafor at the 5, I really do think that will help out starting 5 become a vewry formidable starting 5.

    Who needs some post scoring...

On the RealGM Trade Board.  I threw out the Harrington for SAR idea with the caveat that the free caproom is there to do the deal.  Most are agreeing SAR isn't worth a 1st, but I might throw a 2nd in there (NOK's maybe, as it'd be fairly high).

I think they'd do it straight up without the pick; owners are going to value losing 2-3 million of salary much more than the fans are.

    It's a thought anyway.

By my calculations, the salary cap is 55.6 million...according to Sham we're at 52.8, but he's also showing BK hitting us for 1.5. We get to reduce that hit by half of his new salary, effectively costing us 700K. Deduct that, and we're 3.6 million under the cap, which combined with Harrington's deal is 100K over SAR's contract.

If that's correct we can easily do that deal.

Spectre: If they would do the deal for Othello and a 2nd, to me that is a No-Brainer. I was willing to go Herrmann and a 2nd, figuring they would want someone who could at least be a 3 pt scorer off the bench. Face it, at 75%, I think SAR is a big upgrade over Hollins or Primoz. He'd be a Vet who can help provide some leadership to our youthful guys.
    Would you pull the trigger?

Heck yeah! SAR has dropped a little over the years (like some said in that thread), but the vet presence as well as ANY additional post threat would be big for us IMO.

Besides, the PT and the change of scenary could do him good.

WHAT Kings are trading Abdu~rahim?? Friggin' idiots. First C~Webb, then they tried to trade Mike Bibby, and now Shareef. Greeaatt. Who the hell is GM? A third grader? Anyway, if we can manage to get Rahim, i'm all for it. He's a good player. If you didn't notice, i'm also Kings fan too. My #1 team.

I've been an Abdur-Rahim fan since his rookie year, always felt sorry that the guy has never basically (one quick round with the Kings) been to the playoffs, but I'm not a big fan of the trade. I'm sure it's not feasible, but I'd like to put a Walter and 2nd rounder for Spurs' C Francisco Elson. As much as Popovich loves his Argentine players, there's an outside shot he'd sign-off on this.

It depends on the contract for Rahim; if this is his final year, I'd be much better with it, but I don't want to be saddled with him when we have such a good opportunity to get Antawn either during the trade deadline, or offseason.

I wouldn't touch Shareef unless I was totally assured that he was over his KNEE PROBLEMS. Even though he will be just 31 in about a month, this is his 13th NBA season and it looks like he may be worn out.

I read on Real GM that he has two more years AFTER this year on his current contract of MLE $5.8M. So no way. I would not trade an expiring contract or anything else for that matter for the obligation to pay him $6M or so for the next 3 years; while likely getting nothing but hospital bills in return.

Shareef has never played on a winning team, so I'm not sure what kind of veteran presence he brings...

If Okafor goes down, we're screwed with or without Shareef; especially since he'll likely not be available anyway due to his lingering knee problems.

Good wide range of opinions so far. It is a risk if his knee is not healing well, since we would have him for 2 more years. But, if the knee is good and he just needs a change of scenary, that could be a large part to completing our starting 5 puzzle. 18.5 pts and vet leadership on the front line with Okafor? That part sounds good to me. And for $6 mil a year, if he is healthy, you are not going to get that much production for less than $9 / yr on the open market.
CAUTION: With Othello and his bad knees, and concern over the knees of May, I am very wary of making this move without having an Ortho Specialist give him a physical and clear him to our Management's assuarance. If he is given a solid clean bill of health, and only if that, would I pull the trigger. Especially if all we are giving up is Othello and a 2nd.
