    Default Rating Raymond

I know that when I mention using Ray in a trade, many of you disagree. I wanted to see exactly how he stacked up against all the other starters in the NBA. This does not include back ups with serious minutes, only the 30 starters per the ESPN Depth Charts for the teams:

Ray is tied for 8th in pts
    Ray is 11th in assists
    Ray is 13th in rebounds

I then looked at them and asked myself " Where would I rate Ray in total as far as PG's go, and here is my list of those I rate well ahead of Ray:
    D. Williams, T. Parker, S. Nash, C. Billups, J. Tinsley, C. Paul, J. Kidd, A. Miller and B. Davis.

*That would put Ray around my #10 PG in the NBA. Then, I looked at the few around the same as Ray, or nipping at his heels so to speak. The numbers would suggest: D. Gibson, M. Williams, B. Udrih and TJ Ford.

In summation, it seems to me that Ray is somewhere between the top 1/3 to 1/2 of NBA starting PG's. His TO's, not so great FG% and his leadership are all things which we can see as taking away from his value or adding to his value. These are solid numbers, but it is far from spectacular. You do not give up someone like that unless you have someone in place to replace him of equal or greater value OR you have an adequate back up who can start temporarily and you are given another player who helps you greatly somewhere else or a high draft pick or both.

**For those of us who have been hard on Ray, we need to see that he is not that bad. For those that think it heresy to discuss trading him, he ain't all that and a bag of chips. He is good, but definitely not great. Then ask ask yourself the most importaint question of all:

"Is Raymond Felton a good enough PG as to enable us to win an NBA Title?" He does not have to be the MAIN REASON we win, but he has to be solid enough and make wise decisions enough to NOT COST us the Title. If you trust him that much, so be it. If you have a question, then you need to evaluate the situation don't you?

I can't anwser this question, until Felts has been given the opportunity to run the point an entire game.

Then I will gladly anwser any questions to the best of my ability reguarding Felts.

Come to think of it, I do have a question: If Felts was the product of a system like D12 is in SVG's system, although it's only 20 games into the season. Would he have superstar status.

What we are getting from Felts is the production of SV's system, which noone knows what it is.

When it was run and gun we were 6-4, and Felts stat were high.

i'd say tj ford is better than felton, but other than that i'd agree with the assesment. felton is probably in the top third of the league when it comes to PG. but he still can elevate his game if he gets his J under control

I don't think he'd be in super star status, but I do think he'd have pretty respectable numbers...as well as all the rest of the guys too.

Look at Orlando last year. Many...myself included...didn't see how the Magic would be a powerhouse this year by just adding Rashard Lewis while losing Darko & Hill. They brought in SVG however and he quickly developed a strategy of surrounding Dwight with long ball shooters. Their PG Nelson gets very similar criticisms that Felton does (yet we're told repeatedly...not on here but in other forums...that it's ALL Felton's fault) yet they're kicking ass.

In contrast, look at the Bucks. Again very similar to us like Orlando...Mo's PG skills have been questioned, an "iffy" big man, scorer at the 2, slasher at the 3 and what should be a comparable 4 with Fabio & Yi, but also Gadzuric vs. Primoz. Everyone felt they'd be a .500 team this year (last year they were decimated by injury) yet they seem lost.

Like us they have an inexperienced coach, giving their fans just like us major WTF moments.

I can't stress enough how much I think the rookie coach is hurting us.

BTW, I agree that TJ has become "better" than Felton...but once again he now has a coach that's been with the same squad for around 3 years.

Towards the original post...like I've said repeatedly, no one is "safe" from trade IF IT MAKES THE TEAM BETTER OVERALL. If we trade Felton I'd want a very good/great 4 coming back as well as a plan in place to cover the PG duties. Getting that great player and keeping Touche' as the PG wouldn't do that.

I have to say, I was wondering about the scenario of trading Felton when the mgmnt was talking about Boykins. Now that they have shot that down, I don't think anything is in the works there.

Don't be surprised if we are downplaying our interest in Boykins like we did Varejeo and Richardson... He would provide some great offense of the bench with Carroll and Primoz (if he wakes the hell up)

And now his FG% is over 40%.

    I guess he's good again!

Always on point, spectre. Today was a good day for Raymond. Let's keep him, huh?
