    Default Bonnell is right

I know Bonnell does not get much love on this Board, and rightly so. But he has an article out today which is very well thought out and makes a great point. *I am no good with providing links, so if someone can provide the link from Charlottte.com, that would be great.

I am one who of those whom Bonnell correctly states has toyed with the idea of allowing Crash to play the 4 position. If we happen to be in a Draft position and the best player is a 3, we can line him up between J-Rich and Crash. I'd rather draft a PF or C, but the option was there. Many of us have said that, Bernie played him at the 4 and so has Vincent.

Bonnell points out that although a smaller lineup like that may be athletic and seem like a good idea, that we risk putting Crash in positions where he can be hurt. It puts him having to guard someone who is consisitently 20-40 pounds heavier than he is, and in a contact sport, "thngs happen". Well, a "thing" happened last night. I'm not saying that this is somthing which can "easily happen again", but that it cannot be surprising to us.

I think I have reconsidered my thoughts of a small lineup. I think we absolutely need to keep Crash at the 3, and forego using him at the 4. Maybe in the occasional moments where the other team is playing a smaller lineup and he will not be outsized by 20-40 pounds, it may be OK. But as a general rule, I think I'd shy away from it.

    Heres the link Beagle,

And in this case Rick Bonnell is absolutely correct. When Gerald plays the PF spot, its only a matter of time before something bad happens.

Strange that I've been cosigning a lot of his most recent blogs he's speaking the 100% truth here again.

I think he's right as well; except I'm not sure I understand this great mismatch advantage he (and Vincent) think is such a great idea; unless they're talking about the mismatches it puts against us.

Really IMHO the small lineup is the #1 reason we're so bad. Wallace has even been quoted as saying he doesn't want to play PF.

Wallace has been working all season on his outside shot; and generally improving it; that's a good thing. So has Okafor (well 10 ft. lol). But whenever Wallace misses it leaves Okafor outnumbered usually like 3 to 1 under the boards. The first quarter last night was full of that. I'm not sure OK50 wasn't just thinking "screw this". He needs a little help.

    We are getting killed inside.

I guess this mystical mismatch advantage is what keeps driving Vincent to use the lineups he does. I guess I'm just not a mystical/spiritual kind of guy; cause like most things like that; I don't get it.

So you have the audacity to suggest that Vincent should apply logic and reason to the game of basketball?

I knew there was a reason to be suspicious of you.

During last night's intro, I saw that the Kings were starting two 7-footers on the front line, my first thought was, "Oh God, if Hammy starts his midget lineup, we'll get crushed." and he did.

Still, the guys played hard, primarily when Dudley was in the game. But then Sammy took him out and, well, you see how it went.

Here's my overall thoughts on the game: Sam needs to learn (among other things) how to match up with other teams...the small ball lineup, IMO, was chic back when the Suns were starting Rex Chapman, now teams are getting bigger and we're trying to out-fast them. Secondly, WE NEED TO MAKE OUR FREE THROWS!!! We lost 13 free points on the line and the two that Okafor bricked came back to haunt us. Third: what in God's name was up with that final set? It looked like they weren't even TRYING to get J-Rich the ball, who I thought should get the last shot cuz he was on fire the whole game. And last, but not least, my prayers to Crash and his family. It was terrible being there and watching him laid out like that, so I hope he takes his time being healthy...basketball shouldn't matter to much for Gerald right now, I just want him to be safe and 100% fit.

But the Crash situation just goes back to my first point: matchups. Mikki Moore leveled Crash with an inadvertent elbow pretty much because Moore is a ton taller than Crash, and it's like I told my wife: "I'm 6'3", you're 5'...if we played basketball and I turned to face-up to the rim, I'd probably hit you in the face every time."

Get to thinkin, Sam, you freakin moron! Every timeout, I was shouting "Don't listen to him!!!"

Amour: I'm just picturing you at the game. Your about 20 ft from our bench. Sam calls a TO. At the team gathers around, and you yell "Don't listen to him!". I swear, I bet half the team would get a big smile on their face and think to themselves "I hear you! We tuned him our a couple months ago!"

Oh, to be a fly on the wall in the luxury boxes with MJ and the guys at a time when Sam is calling ridiculous plays and installing a ridiculous lineup.

If I could afford to be in the lower bowl, much less 20ft from the bench, I'd be verbally MAULING vincent during the game. I'd shout to the players not to listen to him and I'd be chanting "Ja-Red Dud-ley! :clap clap clapclapclap:" until Hammy puts him in the game

Hmmmm.... I DO sit about 20 ft. from the bench (well actually about 15 ft.) and sometimes I do yell. My screams are few, but when they come they're usually involuntary and quite loud. A few games ago when Sam removed Carroll late in the game; I just screamed "Matt Carroll!!!" at the top of my chords. Matt turned to see who yelled and kind of smirked...but I was hiding by then LOL.

Normally though, when Sam puts McInnis in late in the game; he does hear a very loud chorus of "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" from the fans behind him. The man is obviously clueless though.
