I have to say, unless we just get lucky with the ping pong balls, I dont see us with the worst record. I think at worse, we will likely have anywhere from the 4th worse to the 6th worse. I think NY and Seattle will pass us, but not sure about Minn, Memphis or Miami. Miami could get on a run with Wade and The Matrix tho.

Too true. There are 3 classifications of teams out there: 1. The Haves 2. The Have Nots 3. The Mediocre

The haves are feasting on the have nots and mediocre. The mediocre is generally feasting on the havenots. The teams behind us are just so putrid, I don't think they'll ever catch up with us, especially the teams in the west who will be going up agaisnt the much tougher teams night in and night out. Minnesota is really really improving, but because they are out west, they won't be able to catch up with us, even if they sweep us. Memphis and Seattle likewise are just so bad I think being 4 games up on them is just too much. Miami actually has some potential, but realistically, I don't think they can make up 7 games on us. Plus, there's still the woeful Knicks and Clippers to contend with who don't look like they want to take the leap above us.

Basically, with any luck we finisih with the 5th worst record, and even greater luck we don't get screwed and end up with a pick below 5, and possibly even move up. There was an article I think John Delong wrote for the WS Journal back in '06 before the draft lottery saying how big it would be for the franchise to get the number 1 pick, both for the player that comes with it, but also the publicity and fanfare that having the number 1 pick has. If ever there was a year we needed it, that would be this year....

You never know man I sure as hell didn't think Portland would be the #1 around that time everyone was banking on Boston getting that spot anything can happen.

Amen! Maybe we pull al Portland!

As for the Clippers, they have alrady passed us. The Knicks lost last night and are only 1.5 behind us, and Seattle is like 4 behind us. We very likely move up to the #4 pick, and if Miami gets going, the #3. Who knows. But, we can dream of Beasley, and even Rose would be nice.

The worst team almost never gets the best pick. Wasn't the last one ORL and Dwight?

I wonder what the average spot the winning team usually has? 5th thru 7th might not be that bad a place to be in.

I watched the game last night, and Beasley is definitely loaded with talent, but he looks about 6'8" tops which would make him more of a SF or an undersized PF.
Is it just me that thinks he looks a little small on TV

He definitely seems smaller than I had thought he would be. Plays large, though.

He offically been measured at 6'9" with shoes - but he's only 18 to it's fair to think that he still might have an inch or two of growing to do.

You only have to take a look at his hands and feet to see that he's large.

Plus, he has the same standing reach as Bosh and a 7+ foot span.

Elton Brand plays the 4 and he's no bigger than 6'8". Same with Josh Smith. Heck, we play Crash at the 4 and he's 2 inches shorter and 20lbs lighter than Beasley!!

Very true Slam, and I'm probably over analyzing the possible issue with his height, but I would feel a lot better about using a #1 overall pick on him (if we're lucky enough to get it) if he measures out at a legit 6'9" or 6'10".
I know that they are very different types of players, but I think back to Sean May at 6'8" trying to guard the 6'11" athletic power forwards and it wasn't too pretty.

Slam, good call on him having room to grow. He probably has more height in him. Especially if his hands, feet and wingspan "outsize" his height.
