    Default P/F or Center

Even after playing for us this long . I still can't tell if Okafor is a P/F or a center .
Who or what kind of player do you put next to him ?
Is he large enough to play center ?
Can he guard P/F s speed in the open floor?
What kind of player do we put next to him if we keep him?

    Thanks Ammofan!

    EO50 is a 5.

Ideally we will team him with a big who can stretch the D with mid range shooting, can play the high post and pick and pop, has high BBIQ, and is athletic enough to get up and down the floor as well as defend on ball.

Chris Bosh and LMA would be perfect.

He has to be a 5.

The difficulty is he is an undersized 5, who is not a great finisher on offensive. He is not as long as other big-time 5s in the league, and I believe he is among the league leaders in shots blocked. Makes it extremely hard to put someone next to him.

If the Bobcats continue to feature him as a big man, he has to finish at the rim alot better, and improve his free throw percentage. He needs an all-star talent next to him who can score in the low post and stretch the defense, as mentioned.

I still throw around the idea of him coming off the bench in an ideal world, with a much longer/finisher at C, and stud at PF.

Just an interesting note. When playing the ESPN Lottery Machine today, with the 8th pick, we are slated for DeAndre Jordan. He is certainly a Center, so if the Cats did take him, we'd either have to play Okafor at PF or we'd be doing a S&T with Okafor for a PF quite possibly.

1st OCHeel welcome to Bobcats planet. Good post have fun and keep posting.
Slam i compleatly agree with your post. The player you discribing kinda sounds like a healthy Mc May all so . Hes great on a pick and roll . Can hit the jumper . Set a great screan and has a high BBIQ. Only problem hes only good for ten games a season?
Do any of you guys know of any players in the draft with all those quilitys?

    Thanks Ammofan!

Anthony Randolph, Kevin Love, Darrell Arthur...none are perfect, but any one would be a nice upgrade. Randolph might be a clone of Davidson though, never seen him play so not sure of his game. He seems to be the same height and weight as SuperMario.

We just don't know at all what Sean May will be able to do next season; so my take is prepare on getting nothing (as they should have clearly done last year .. again .. plain stupid) and then enjoy the luxury of a healthy and helpful May when and if it ever actually happens.

If the Cats take DeAndre Jordan, it'll probably be a year or two until he makes an impact on the rotation, if ever. Clearly, the kid has a huge risk/reward going for him though. Interesting....but too risky for me. Potential is normally only achieved when the player has the motor to get there. So far, I haven't seen that in Jordan. You never know though.

I wonder if any rookie PF will play much next year, especially with Sam as coach. It could be Davidson emerges at that position for us. Probably a stretch, but I think he can do it.

Ive said it from day 1. Okafor is a center. and i dont think his height has anything to do with it.

his physical tool set isn't smooth, its very practiced and mechanical. which is fine by me, it just means he has been tutored and taught to play the 5. It is where he is best suited and can be at times a very very good player. he shouldnt even see a little bit of time at the 4. not in this NBA.

The perfect situation for me is to get an offensive yang for Meks defensive Ying.

Beasley (long shot but possible) would be about perfect i think. that would be two 6'10 guys who can get around and I personally think could cover for eachother well. In double team situations, Mek is more than capable of scoring and on defense i think any 6'10 athelete that is as atheletic as Beasley can hold his own down low.

DeAndre Jordan had me drooling early. But like Slam (i think) said, if he cant show up in college and perform... at least a little bit. then how much help can he be in the NBA. He would absolutely be worth the pick, just for his amazing upside. But we would have to acquire a PF somehow that could play that spot.

This is a list of this years free agents . It looks to me like Brand , and Jamison head the class at power foward, I w ould love to see Okafor, Brand , Wallace Rich , Felton toghter. But i think we would have to move down two a 2nd teir FREE AGENT salery cap wize .
Does any one see any winners in the free agent class to along side Okafor?

whether we keep Okafor or not, I think we'd have to get creative and try to strike gold if we're gonna try to sign a PF. Maybe someone like Brandon Bass or Leon Powe....low risk, potential high reward players that are available if we can't get a good PF via the draft or Okafor sign-and-trade

By leting Okafor go in a sign and trade we might be better off signing a top teir P/F or a top teir Center.
I feel the draft has a lot more centers than P/Fs.
Thabet, to go along with Brand or Jamison, Smith.
Top teir and 2nd teir free agents below.

If we draft this guy to go along with Nazz i don't even think we miss Okafor.

    http://www.mynbadraft.com/NBA-Draft-...asheem-Thabeet

I think that alows us to pick up a top teir free agent.
    1. Felton
    2. Rich , Carroll
    3. Wallace, Dudley, Morrison
    4. [Brand, Jamison, Smith,] May, Davidson
    5. Nazz, Thabeet
I don't think we loose a lot in Okafor if we draft Thabeet.
This would make us a lot stronger with out much of a drop off at center.
Instantly we become a serious playoff contender.

    Thanks Ammofan!
