They claim they want a vet but the two positions they need the most help in is PG (and we have nothing to offer there) and SF and all we have is Morrison and Dudley and I doubt one year of playing experience qualifies them as "vets".
Portland's GM came out and said they want to trade #13 in the Draft. They want a player rather than Draftee since they have some good young talent already. Are we interested? Is there a deal we can broker to get the #13. If we can, then mixing #9 and #13 gives us a pretty good shot at landing any combo of PF and PG. Perhaps Love and #9 and Augustin at #13? Do they have someone we want them to package with the #13 where we'd be willing to give them Crash and maybe our 2nd rounder? All kinds of things that can be worked out with Portland considering they have a couple expendable Guards and they have Frye who some of us wanted earlier in a trade.
Is there a deal you would feel comfortable with that Portland would do and which can make us better?

For the right set of players and that #13, we could give them Crash. I'd hate to part with him and his favorable Contract, but if we fill a couple holes with quality players and get that pick, we also can avoid taking the chance that Crash gets another concussion and then becomes sidelined and costs us dearly.
Not saying I would do the above deal off hand, but just that a few options are indeed out there.
If Crash got us #13 and a backup PG or PF, would you want to try packaging our two picks for a higher pick?
Then the next question is 9 + 13 = ?
If Mayo slipped to #9 and we could draft him with our pick then I would trade Crash to Portland for their 13th and Rodreguiz (sp?) and take the best PF available at 13

Mayo wont last till #9. At worst, #6, but more likely #4 or #5. Do you have enough faith in Mayo to bring a different skill set to the team? If so, then we can package Crash for Rodriguez and #13, then trade #9 and #13 for #4 IF Mayo is still there. Then, with our 2nd, which we DO have, we grab a big PF who is there such as JJ Hickson or one who was projected as a late 1st but who slips. **For a shile, Jason Thompson from Rider (6-11, 250 lbs avg 20 pts and 12 reb) was listed around where we pick in 2nd, But lately, he is listed on mocks as anywhere from #20 - #30 in the 1st. Crap, I think he'd be great as a late 1st early 2nd round selection.
Mayo and Crash are pretty different. I think Mayo at the SG and J-Rich at his more natural SF, will very likely be more dynamic than J-Rich at SG and Crash at SF. Just my opinion, and I know some with disagree. But I think Mayo has that "it" factor that will prove special.

I've seen Hickson picked in the same 20-30 region of some mocks - though I don't believe he'll go that high, and I think he should stay in school. My point is, I think that once we get past #20 people have no idea what teams will do, and they won't until teams start bringing kids in for workouts. I'd like either of Rider or Hickson (if he's gotta jump to the NBA, it might as well be my team, right?), but it's a real crap shoot.
I like the idea of bringing in Mayo with the Portland trade. I'd hate to lose Crash, but you have to admit that the team played really well when Crash was out and Swish played SF next to Matt.
MY only question is this: Rodriguez gives us the back-up PG we need, and Mayo gives us a potential superstar to play the opposite wing from JRich, but in this scenario we fail to address the PF situation until the 2nd round. I don't think we can wait another year to make a serious move to get a PF.
Also, I think we maybe could squeeze a little more out of Portland. What if they send Frye and we return them AMMO. (I know, I know, mentioning him in a trade is the "trendy" thing to do nowadays. I'm not just trying to get him off the team, and if it was any team other than Portland I don't think they'd take him. However, he still might hold some clout in the Pacific NW, and would help us address our real needs.
I know there's been a lot of discussion about Crash's worth to the team, but I think he's definitely worth more than an unproven prospect and the 13th pick in a marginal draft.
I just don't think we have the pieces to get the 13th, unless they were that gaga over Morrison.
I think they'll wait and see who's available before they trade the pick. If they could get Westbrook, he makes too much sense for them, even if he is another rookie. I'm guessing they line up a couple of trades, see who's available at the pick, and then decide to deal, probably picking for the partner team and then trading.
SOMEONE will pay for THIS!
Trying to get the 4th is very difficult in that scenario as 1) Mayo could very well be taken 3rd and we'll have traded Crash 2) why would Seattle want more youth? Not to mention something that complicated seldom gets done.
Minny would want Mek, and even though I can see dealing with them for the 3rd and Walker's expiring and then having max FA money to spend in '09 (both Brand & Booz should be available) I doubt Jordan's willing to do that. Plus I really want to give Mek a chance under Brown.
Unless Mayo slips (which I'm highly doubting; read today's Hoopshype/Rumors) I'm thinking he's out of reach unless we could do the Felton/9th for Wilcox/4th. We'd still be dealing with Minny possibly taking Mayo however, something I don't know that I'm willing to risk either. Felton played damn good under Roy Williams and I have a strong feeling we're going to see similar under Brown. For Mayo I'd probably give him and Crash up, not so much for just a chance.
LMA+13th for Gerald Wallace
Id do it.
Then we have Aldridge to play PF and we have 9 and 13, hopefully we can try and package those two picks for a higher pick, looking for OJ.
3-5 might be interested in it. As far as slams theory of mayo dropping, its just not happening
