Question Do whatever is necessary to get to Beasley?

Seriously guys... although I know that the possibility coming from our front office of actually making a move and us having the ability to make it work is very, very slight... I think we should try to do whatever is necessary to get to Beasley in the draft.

It appears most likely Chicago will draft Rose #1 overall to 1. gain favor with their fans and 2. cause he is very good. Beasley will be sitting there at #2. I think the guy is going to be a future all-star player. We have yet to have a guy who has that real obvious type of potential. Plus he can play at a severe position of need.

The question is what exactly could we do to get there without throwing out the whole team? Obviously as I have stated previously the likelyhood of this happening or even being a real possibility is very slight but lets dream away shall we

The main problem we face is that we would be trading in division with the Heat which almost never works but I think we have some pieces that would greatly help them. Right off the top of my head 2 guys we have talked about trading off and on over the last year would be a great help to them.... Crash and Okafor... put those two with Wade and thats a damn tough team. But I know there'd have to be some other players, picks, parts added to the scenario....

Just curious as to what ya'll think... and any ideas of what we could do? Again, I know the possibility is slight but I think Beasley could be a beast for us long term.

Never gonna happen. We could offer the farm for the #2 pick and it won't be accepted. A GM will never be fired for drafting either Beasley or Rose at two (the leftover pick is the safest in the draft) and generating 1-2 years of intense fan buzz. A GM will be fired for trading the pick for "old" NBA blood, losing the excitement and perhaps making an enormous mistake. Just like our boards, people put a ton of hope in prospects even though they are unknown and unproven. We are discussing trading our heart and soul, a 20/7-9/3-5 guy for an unproven draft pick like it is the smartest move to make. I don't think there is a GM in the league that would give up the #1 or 2 in a draft like this years or last.

I agree in general but I thought at least initially that Miami had been open to moving out at #2? I think throwing Okafor, Crash, and #9 at them could really stir the pot a bit... Now to your point about the players we'd be giving up... BOTH of them have issues that we've gone over and over... Crash/injuries and not quite fitting somehow... and Okafor... Not fitting at PF or C really .... I know its a huge risk on both teams part and I understand exactly what you are saying in the first part of your post about GM's and early draft picks but again I thought there was something coming out of Miami about not being locked into picking at #2.

I still think we could sign and trade Oak to the bulls. The problem is we would have to take a lot of salary back to make the numbers work. Perhaps we could include Dudley to make the deal more attractive.

I'd pull a Panthers type draft night move by given up next years first and the 9th pick just to get a player like Beasley I still think he's the best prospect in the draft. With that said I think Mayo could be had for less like I said in the trade thread Okafor for the number 3 pick might be able to land us a star potential player like OJ Mayo we might have to throw in 9 though to make it official.

Beasley's size, being a hair over 6-8 rather than the 6-10 at which he was listed in College, gives me a little pause in the enthusiasm I had for him. He seems more of a big SF in size than a PF. He has the tools to play outside without any problems, but I have some concern with him going head to head with some of the bigger stronger PF's in the league. He could prove to be a defensive liability in that respect. I'd consider doing a S&T with Okafor for Beasley, and use our #9 on Lopez/Ajinca/Hibbert/Jordan. We'd be a little soft on interior defense this season, but our Center should be better defensively the next yr. But no way would I do a S&T with Okafor AND give up #9. I just dont think there's enough there. ** As a side note, I wonder if Chicago would take Felton, Dudley and #9 for Rose? Not enough is it? Didn't think so. They'd probably want 2009
    1st as well.

According to DX's extensive data base, the average height for an NBA PF is:

    6'8" tall (w/o shoes)
    236lbs
    7'1" wing span
    8'11" standing reach

    Beasley measured in at:

    6'7"
    239lbs
    7'0"
    8'11"

Lets also keep in mind that he is still very young and still has some growing to do.

He more than passes the eye test when it comes to playing the PF position in the pro's with his skill set and his measurements support that claim too.

Thanks for the info Slam. I would have thought that the majority of PF's would have been a little bigger. I'd feel a little better if he were 2 inches higher, but you cant have everything.

No. I wouldn't mortgage the future on one guy coming out of college. As long as it isn't Lopez (and hell, he could turn out to be a great pick for all I know), I think we'll get a great long-term impact player by just sitting still at 9. Yes, I really want it to be RW, but even if he's long gone, somebody good will be there for us.

I really think height is overhyped in the NBA. Charles Barkley is roughly 6'4 and was one of the best PF's ever.

Now seriously, I would trade Wallace for Beasley, but Okafor and Wallace, no way! We would be killing ourselves. Thats a #2 and a 20ppg scorer. Remember Okafor like beasley was supposed to be a star in the NBA. Different players, but same idea.

I want beasley too, but not by tearing down our front line. We would be desolate at C. Brook Lopez, he aint cuttin it
