    Default Josh Smith/Josh Childress

I still doubt whether Philly's $12 million in cap space is enough to make the Hawks back off matching a deal with Smith, but Golden State's treasure chest is another story. The Warriors could max out Smith and frontload the deal, and his open-court game would be perfect in Don Nelson's system.

Of course, if the Hawks do retain Smith, one has to think that Childress will become even more poachable. A good strategy for both Philly and Golden State is to pursue Smith, then switch to Childress if the Hawks match the Smith offer. I greatly doubt they'll shell out for both.
Ok. So why don't we try to nab Josh Smith or Josh Childress to grab some extra depth? We can never have too many talented bench players that can play defense like he can...Like they said, they likely won't keep both. MLE for Childress?

We definitely couldn't afford Smith unless we renounced Okafor. Childress be much more expensive than the MLE. I'd love to have him, but we can't pay another swingman type player big dollars. Smith would be very interesting, but only if we could keep Okafor. And even then, I wouldn't want to put a lot of money in a guy like Smith unless I knew for sure how he was going to function on our team. Smith's not the greatest skill player; he just has ridiculous talent. He's the kind of guy that can hurt you as well as help you. So, unless you had pretty solid plans for what he'd do on the court in your offense, I'd probably save the money.

Josh Smith is redundant in a lineup that includes Gerald Wallace. We don't need another athletic wing who can't shoot.

We can't afford to sign Childress. He's a good player who doesn't address many of our needs and would add a lot of dollars to the payroll and make it even harder for us to ever land a big man.

I'm not a big fan of Smoove - but he's just a kid and he might grow up and improve. As dnb rightfully said - he can hurt you as quick as he can help you.

    I am a fan of Chil's though!!

But with the drafting of Weaver, I don't see there being a role for Chil on our team. If we didn't draft Weaver and the Mavs didn't sign Gerald Green I would have liked to S&T Chil for Hammer (they need shooters) and signed Green on the cheap.

But no need for that with Weaver now on our roster.

I can live with those answers. Smith could fill the PF role, and if Atlanta kept him we'd just heighten their payroll.

As for Childress, we could try the MLE, because if they just signed Smith to a big contract they likely wouldn't shuck out money and we may get him on the cheap....and we could always make more trades later - and as for Weaver, he's nice to have but I'd like to make an attempt at upgrading the talent base some more.

We could try to get Childress with the MLE, but so would half the NBA, including teams with more playing time and opportunity for success. Childress will get a 7-9M contract pretty easily. If he wasn't playing behind Johnson and Smith, he'd be getting huge minutes. The guy is a do everything glue guy that a lot of teams would covet. I just don't see it happening.

I mean, if we get him, great! I just don't think it's realistic.

childress is currently very sought after...plus i'd think he'd want good PT as well

if we got josh, i would want to trade wallace for a good PF
