    Default Augustin is the truth!

Great day in the Vegas Summer League, he looked great. He only finished with 2 Assists, but he had several more great passes that the SL free agents either missed or didn't finish... His scoring ability is looking great as well, although he did get one of his layups viciously slapped off the backboard.

Also, I've always been on the Guillermo Diaz bandwagon since reading about him in SLAM early on in his days at Miami, and watching him today gave me even more of a reason. I really hope we hang onto him because I think we could utilize him as a combo guard, he's just so explosive!

Hines did well, and Jamareo Davidson came to work!!! Great game.

(And as a sidenote, I'm disappointed in James Mays, I thought he would perform much better... he didn't even shoot!?!?)

Good start indeed for our young point guard but our opinions on him will probably change from game to game. What we need to keep in mind is that this is still the Summer League after all and how they play here may not necessarily mean it will be the same in the league (Marco Bellinelli last year). Nonetheless, he looks promising and we just got to give him time to develop. Most of the FAs who played chipped in a couple of points each, which was good to see.

Glad to see you've given up hope on Mays after one game.

Who said I was giving up? I said I was disappointed. And the coaching staff must not be too impressed with the playing time they gave him either. I was hoping since watching him in college that we would get him. I really think he's gotta spot in the NBA, he obviously has the talent... I hope we give him that spot.

I like James Mays as well but where do you think his spot is on this roster?

C: Nazr Mohammed - Ryan Hollins - Alexis Ajinca

PF: Emeka Okafor - Sean May - Jermareo Davidson

SF: Gerald Wallace - Adam Morrison - Jared Dudley

SG: Jason Richardson - Matt Carroll - Kyle Weaver / Kyle Hines

PG: Raymond Felton - D.J. Augustin - Guillermo Diaz

I wish we had re-signed Earl Boykins as our 3rd PG but oh well I always liked the guy and was happy we brought him in to begin with.

Does anyone think Kyle Hines will win the 3rd SG spot over Kyle Weaver? I think Hines has a lot of talant and I have seen him play many times because I live in Greensboro and go to a lot of UNCG games.

I definitely don't think he wins a spot over Weaver.

Isn't Hines a 6'6 PF? I don't think he has the skills to play sg.

I'm also not convinced Diaz will be on the roster. My guess is that we'll probably go with Weaver as the third pg since Felton and Augustine will dominate the pg minutes. We really don't need another pure pg on the roster unless one of those two get injured.

I'm also not sure we need more than 14 on the roster to start the season. That would give us more flexibility as the season goes on to make different moves and also adjust to injuries. This would require not signing any more free agents (assuming we sign Okafor, Weaver and Hollins).

I think we can sign players to league minimum contracts where only a portion is guaranteed. We can then waive the player before Jan. 10th and only have to pay the guaranteed portion. So, if we had a guy we like that we wanted to keep an eye on, we could sign him now (or whenever), but then waive him anytime before Jan. 10th to pick up another player based on need.

We could take a chance on a guy like Hines, and, if he's not earning his keep, waive him later. The Bobcats would have to eat some of his salary, but it would be a minimal amount.

What you're saying makes total sense if there isn't somebody worth taking a risk on; we shouldn't necessarily fill the spot just to fill it. However, if there's a player worth taking a risk on, it doesn't hurt us to go ahead and sign him.
