Default Larry Brown's comments on Gerald Wallace

    Via USA Today http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baske...70579908_x.htm

"We've got a bunch of small forwards. I don't know who can guard," Brown said, in a subtle dig at Gerald Wallace, who was dangled as trade bait during the draft. "We got a whole bunch of big guards. Right now we're in a position where it's going to be difficult to play everybody there. We've got some young kids up front. We'll just have to wait and see if we're ready."
It sounds like LB isn't sold on Crash's defense.

Im kinda suprized about Browns concerns about Wallaces defence. I really don't think Brown likes the gambling Wallace takes. He likes hard nozed stay at home defenders.
Brown all so wants a big point and more help at the four and he says we crowded at the wing.

If he wants to address all that this season we in for a lot of changes.
I keep coming back to Portland to gap our holes and give Brown what he wants.
Frye and Outlaw for Wallace and some kind of draft pick or player.

I think Frye fits the Brown system well . I all so think Outlaw provides the defence Brown is looking at the three.
Is Wallace enough by his self to get both players ?

Either way i think Wallace is on the trading block and we looking for a four.
Briging in M. Williams to camp leads me to think Wallaces time as a Bobcat in nearing a end.

    zig,

I think the writer took some liberties there as he wasn't specifically calling out Wallace. However, I would bet that LB isn't a big fan of the gambling and hasn't seen the one on one shutdown ability that Wallace would seem to POTENTIALLY have. Wings and versatile PFs have consistently killed this team on the defensive side of things. It will be interesting to see how things shake out. The one clear thing is we do need to solidify that PF spot as Oak is best served at center.

It's been looking like Crash has been the "man out" ever since the draft, but he's still the best defender we have at the 3. He can stay home as we've seen him do it, but of course he's more effective playing a more chaotic defense. Swish not being a lockdown defender at the 2 doesn't help the equation either.

But what's the alternative? Say we trade him for a 4...that would leave Duds and Ammo as our top 2! I love Duds like the rest, but "crafty" will only get you so far. Besides, he plays a great 6th man.

Hopefully LB knows what he's doing.

Wow not just a jab at Crash but one to Jared Dudley also you would think both guys wouldn't have any problems committing to playing the type of Defense that would satisfy Coach Brown.

He could just be saying to make sure that both are dedicated to doing exactly what he asks of them. (Which I think they will.)

Look at PG. Ray needs to know that LB has confidence in him, so he only talks about needing a 3rd string PG, and also saying that he has confidence in either Ray or DJ handling the ball.

With SF, we do have glut. So he's gotta motivate them into competition.

It's refreshing to hear some plain talk and to confront serious expectations. I think this is LB's honest perception combined with a dose of motivation.

I think Wallace will rise to the situation and impress coach very much, though you won't hear Brown say it out loud for a long while.

I guess I'm just too naive. I heard coach say that in his press conference yesterday and just inferred that he meant he doesn't know quite how the roster is going to take shape until he spends more time with them, vis a vis, training camp and preseason and beyond. Whether it's true or not that it was a "subtle dig" about Gerald, I think it's damn presumptuous for a columnist to be making such an assumption based on the fact Gerald was part of trade discussions with Toronto on draft night.

This was an innocuous comment, in my opinion, so don't ready so hard into it, folks. From what media friends have told me, subtlety isn't coach's strong point anyway: we'll know whom he is talking about and for what reasons; we won't need conjecture.

This has to be for motivational purposes. Or this is just another sign that the Bobcats as we know them won't me the Bobcats that we finish the season with. Crash i would guess is known league wide for his defense. Risky or not, I'm betting it isn't paying into Browns form fitting defensive ideas so far. This is just the start of training camp so the players and coaches still have to get used to eac other.
As long as NC has a team, I'm going to cheer for it

Good points about this possibly being a move to try to motivate them not only the Small Forwards but he seems to want friendly competition from every single position since we are so deep this year.
