A few observations from the game that I haven't heard anyone touch on yet . . .
1) LB never quit screaming and talking to the team the whole game. It was AWESOME. Constant coaching from buzzer to buzzer. You could hear him in the lower bowl clearly ALL GAME. Such a stark contrast from Biscuit.
2) The intro video was great. It was tough and gritty and I feel it encapsulated the spirit of the team. My favorite intro video in our 5 year history. Each starter looking up at the camera slowly.
3) Okafor didn't bobble passes under the basket like normal. I wonder if last year really was a fluke where he was lost in Biscuit's non-system.
4) The flags outside the arena, pillars at the entrance, etc. where left unchanged from last year. There were definately some "short on money, short on staff" things I noticed. No media guide at all. Last years was the only one available. The box score on the huge screen was gone. The program was really, really thin too.
It was loads of fun. One of the best games I've been too and my first in the lower bowl!
Anyone else buy half price pistons tickets? I got row b behind the basket, section 109 for under $40 a ticket!!! It's going to be great! Freaking row B in the lower bowl!
mentioned it earlier, but i will again (on the theme of budget cuts).
the skyline video used during the broadcast (im watching out in California) is like 2 YEARS OLD! its so ghetto looking.
Ok finally here's my many observations from the game:
* It's obvious the Arena is hurting personnel-wise: the gates opened late and the bulk of the employees seemed to not care. I set off the metal detector and the guy just waved me through anyhow.
* The players were signing from 6-6:30, which is cool...but there was no signs saying where this was. I asked one of the bored-looking employees and she just shrugged. So I ended up just going to my seat. At 6:27, they made the announcement that the players were signing until 6:30....AT 6:27!!! Come on guys!
* Quite a bit of Heat fans in my section, which is great because they were dying the whole game lol
* I liked the intro a lot: very high-energy and the crowd was really amped tonight, which was awesome
* Ladycats facing a budget crunch too? I'm used to frequent wardrobe changes from them...tonight only one. Not bad, though.
* On to the game: it started out really sloppy and had me worried...we were telegraphing our passes and it was obvious even from section 211. Wade pretty much strolled into the lane for an easy layup really early, but eventually we grew some balls and remembered that we were basketball players. Udonis Haslem was killing Okafor with that baseline jumper, it looked like he was gonna do it all day. But then the team woke up and began to play hard...and it was obvious. They hustled for rebounds, hustled for loose balls, and moved the ball very well.
* Biggest sign of a good game: we didn't settle for early/difficult jump shots. What I saw out there was not a jump-shooting team. The Bobcats were aggressive and focused...and I LOVED it
* DJ scared me at first, picking up 2 fouls in like 3 seconds or something like that...but then he settled down and ran that team extremely well. Both our PGs did a phenominal job last night by focusing on distributing the ball as opposed to scoring. Crash, Swish, and Mek took care of all that and it worked beautifully.
* Horrible job of not putting up the scoring totals on the screen....that kinda has you lost during the game. If I didn't look up on bobcats tv in the 4th quarter while Crash was shooting a free throw, I would've never known he had 31 points at that point in the game.
* Gerald Wallace is a freaking monster. Those blocks were sick.
* We embarrassed and dismantled the Miami Heat that night and it was beautiful to watch. Now we have to keep in mind that the Heat are a smaller team and our smaller lineup responded quite well...we need to find just as good a balance with a bigger lineup, though.
* I felt bad for Matt Carroll...they had him address the crowd before tip-off, then benched him the whole game![]()
