Default Brown wants more SF time for Diaw

Boris Diaw is a classic hybrid forward, somewhat in the mold of Antawn Jamison. He’s a bit small for a power forward, but he can out-quick most of them. He’s not as quick as most small forwards, but he can physically overpower most of them. So now that Bobcats coach Larry Brown needs Diaw to play more small forward in Gerald Wallace’s absence, Brown will tweak the offense a bit. Since it’s harder for Diaw to beat small forwards off the dribble, Brown will install more post-ups and pick-and-roll plays for Diaw.
That approach would feature Diaw’s strength advantage over most 3’s and open some jump-shooting and passing opportunities in the pick-and-roll.
    ******
Starting in Wallace’s spot didn’t do much for Adam Morrison Wednesday in Portland. Playing 27 minutes – most he’s played since Dec. 10 – Morrison was 2-of-6 from the field, reflective of a shaky and reluctant shooter.
Brown says Morrison shows the classic signs of a player who’s lost his confidence.
“He passes up shots,’’ Brown said. “He doesn’t play like he plays in practice.’’
    From the observer...

I think reading that we're going to see a lineup in Denver of RF, RB, BD, EO, Diop. That makes the most sense with what we've got.

Also, on the broadcast last night they said something about Cartier Martin meeting us in Utah... I wonder why so long? I could have gotten on a plane to Denver last night and practiced today ready to play tomorrow, maybe the D-league doesnt want to cover an immediate flight?

I like the two bigs with Diop and Okefor. Africans in the paint.

Diaw is to finesse to bang with bigs. Even though his rebound total is pretty high i like him at SF with Crash out. Nazr should see more playin time , maybe Ajinca too.
As long as NC has a team, I'm going to cheer for it

If we start Diop and Okafor I'd say Nazr will get 20 min (for better or for worse) and we might even see 5 minutes of Lexy if he doesnt get in foul trouble. Either way I think we should be able to weather this, its just going to take a few days to learn how to play w/o wallace. I see Cartier coming in off the bench and either giving Diaw a break or giving mek/diop a break by moving Diaw up to the 4, so there is some flexibility.

Of course if Cartier comes in here with something to prove (i.e. "You should have drafted me <insert team that didn't>") and drops 20/10 or better he may get kept, and get to start with wallace out. We all know how the players larry hand picked are working, so don't look past the fact that Larry hand picked this guy on the advice of friends still at KU and im sure we had a scout down at the d-league showcase where he showed well.

I just wish that Ammo somehow finds his groove. He's damn timid though, and obviously not seizing the sudden opportunity. I read that Brand's being shopped on the cheap. I wonder if packaging Nazzy, may, and Ammo with picks could get him, pipe dream as it is. Don't they all expire by 2010??

I wish we had those badass things from Men in Black to wipe his memory, make him forget everything and just come out and ball.

Boris is a modern day PF. His versatility and quickness over other PFs is what makes him most effective. If we put out a Diaw, Mek, Diop frontcourt, we better OWN the boards (no excuses), b/c it is a big lumbering offensive lineup. I think it should be matchup dependent.

I would like for Boris to start at the 4 and play backup at the 3. If Ammo could get his head on he should step in at the 3, but that is not taking place. That said, a quicker lineup with Shannon at the 2 and Raja at the 3 could work.

    Felton
    Shannon
    Raja (defends the tougher cover)
    Diaw
    Mek
    Denver last night started:

    Chauncey
    JR Smith
    Dahntay Jones
    K-Mart
    Nene

Go for the quicker lineup here.

    Utah last night started:
    D-Will
    Brewer
    CJ Miles
    Milsap
    Okur

Go for the quicker lineup here

All that said, using Boris as a reserve at the 3 for some minutes with Howard and Mek (need some faceup ability to unclog things somewhat) is an option. I'm not a fan of Diaw, Mek, Diop for extended time if we are playing against a conventional lineup (rarely happens in today's NBA).

I've been impressed with the way Diaw has guarded the 4's, particularly Amare.
