Default The Waive Sean May Thread

According to the Observer, now May has some swelling in his knee

    http://www.charlotteobserver.com/bob...ry/507854.html

Sean May has experienced some new swelling on his surgically-repaired right knee. He had a magnetic resonance imaging exam that showed no new damage.
There are only 35 games left in the season and I have my doubts that May will be able to simultaneously get under 260 pounds and have a healthy knee anytime soon.

What would be the harm in cutting him and auditioning big men from the D-League through 10 day contracts for the remainder of the season? Its not like we're going to give Sean another year and bring him back next season... At least I hope not.

Seriously, they have treated him as the FRANCHISE PF for 3.25 years (pre-Boris Diaw). And for what? A few nice games including a big double double against Orlando. Just another (maybe the prime example) example of this franchise's obsession with hope and inability to appropriately evaluate reality. Injuries do matter. Again, this ain't a video game where you can take the injury settings off. One day we will get that.

We shouldn't waive him until after the deadline, he is expiring and could bring us back someone with a less favorable contract who doesnt suck as bad...I cant think of anyone but im sure the knicks, nets or anyone else praying for 2010 (or some of the better 09ers) would like to give us someone who has a 3 mil ascending contract, or perhaps we trade him with felton and/or ammo to bring back someone with a little more money and time (like ammo+may for a 5-6 mil guy with 3-4 years left from a 2010 hopeful team.)

I am not opposed to waiving May on 2/20 and seeing about getting insurance to cover some of this year's salary to boot.

I support waiving him on 2/20 if he's still with the team then.

I have no problem waiving him the second the trade deadline is passed. Is there not some way we can recoup money from him for sucking so bad?

I completely agree. Not only would it be best for the Bobcats, but I think May needs to be cut for his own career. Right now he has the comfort of being on a team and being paid well. Though he'd keep his money, if he got cut that might be a wake up call that he's going to have to re-double his efforts to be an effective player again.

Of course, I love the idea of trying out other young bigs who are leaving their mark on the NBDL right now.

But would that player be that good? Do we want to tie ourselves to mediocre talent for more years? I'd rather cut our losses, try some young, hungry talent, and then reassess the situation at the end of the year without the added salary.

Why not throw Adam Morrison in the mix as well, both of them are really useless for us.

Strangely, I am much more optimistic about Morrison than May. Despite my recent post, I think Ammo can still contribute if he gets his mind right. He at least has the attitude, which May does not have.

If nothing else, I think Morrison has some possible trade value that May doesn't.

Oh, and the biggest difference: Morrison can actually play basketball right now and May can't.
