How has the economy affected you and your job?

About 2 weeks ago, I saw a group of people that were blindsided with an announcement shortly after lunchtime that they were being let go, then shortly afterwards they were marched out of the building.

In my particular field (I.T.) most of the larger companies have sold their souls to the gods of Indian outsourcing so they would rather fill positions that way than hire an American. Go figure.... Things are getting interesting.

How is your situation?

Hubby and I are medical transcriptionists and hubby's job was outsourced to India as well but some of the doctors weren't happy with that because their medical documents were coming back looking like crap and they requested American based MTs only. So now hubby does his job. I am an IC and just work independently with no company BS which is pretty nice but hubby does employee status so we can have benefits.

How is your situation?

Its funny, I got out of IT because I was seeing the outsourcing start happening... I worked as end-user tech support at Micro Warehouse, which was bought by CDW. Still laugh about the 78 year old lady who was worried her CD burner was going to burn her eyes out if she didn't use it right because the sticker about laser danger on the thing

The shift in I.T. strategy to send the jobs overseas to India gives me heartburn whenever I think about it. The quality of the work is poor and communication with those guys is tough to say the least.

Well...my job still sucks donkey nuts and they gave me a raise after 2 years, but they also gave me even more crappy useless work. On the good side, I did have a job interview this morning and hopefully one more on the way
