Charlotte Bobcats: Expectations Should Be High Next Season - Bleacher Report

The Bobcats shipped out Jason Richardson, Jared Dudley, and a second-round pick to the Phoenix Suns for Boris Diaw and Raja Bell. The second the trade went down, the Bobcats were laughed at by many fans, who saw the trade as a dumb move on the Bobcats part ... how wrong they were.
After two more losses gave the Bobcats a record of 7-18, the Bobcats began to turn things around. The team finished the rest of the season with a 28-29 record, which included a franchise-record six-game winning streak. Although a great turn around, this may not equate to high expectations for next season until we make a deeper analysis.
Nothing we don't all know...but there it is in full black and white.

LB is well known for shaking up rosters, falling in and out of love with players...with this squad I hope he gives them another summer/season and let us see exactly what we do have.

I still think we need to make one more big move to put ourselves in contention. We have a solid team in Ray, DJ, Raja, Crash, Boris, and Mek. We need to make a move including either Raja or Mek that brings in a big time performer in either position.

I also see us making a few smaller moves to help provide some depth as the team started to wear down towards the end of the year. Were fine at PG. But need depth basically everywhere else.

I can see that, but IMO it'd be a little premature to do it until we know what's going to work. I'd like to see more leadership in Boris and Felton. Progress by DJ and at what rate; tho I want to keep both PGs if both keep getting better we'll eventually have to make a decision.

I do not want a Mek/Raja for Boone/VC type deal. It might help for a season or two (management is focused on "now") but I think it'd hurt us in the near future.

If Boris can come back after the summer in top shape AND more assertive then I would be stoked. That alone would take us a long way.

Add in some better shooting from Felts, some better FT shooting from EO50 and that will take us a long way into the playoffs IMO.

I really think that Stackhouse, Dampier and pick #22 shuould be our target.

You being sarcastic because of that rebuild plan or are you serious?

IF we 're wanting to move Mek for relief then I'd probably do that but I wouldn't include Raja. Personally I kind of like the Detroit version of Amir/15th/Affalo for Mek/Nazr personally.

    Make Gana earn his money.

Sarcastic reference to what you predicted would happen and is happening over at RGM on the T&T Board.

    Same.

I saw a Raps fan say #9 and a resigned Matrix. Might not be too bad - but I wouldn't want Matrix signed to all that $$$$

Marion seems like an anti-LB player. He coasted so much last season, it was painful to watch. When Keetch took me to see the Cats play the Raptors, Marion was a complete non-factor. What does he offer us that Crash doesn't already?

If we stand pat like I'm putting forth in this thread we could still use some tweaks (if you can call not having a legitimate backup PF a "tweak"). What would be some good moves that would either be cap neutral or adding very minimal salary?

    Nazr for MoPete straight up.

NOLA needs a backup C and we need a backup SG/SF. Seems like a no brainer as the contracts are the same length (Nazr isn't opting out of that 2nd year) AND we lose around 600k in salary each year.

Malik Allen/41st pick for TE we received for the Dudley trade last year...which would add 1.3 million to our salary.

This only works if Allen can pick up his option before the draft...not sure if there's a hard date or not. I don't know if he's worth this or not; he had a terrible year last season but the one before he appeared pretty servicable. I think the 41st added to the 40th or 54th will get us into the mid to late 1st round.

    Any other ideas?

I like the Nazzy for MoPete deal, the Wizard of Naz wants out and MoPete has been stellar at times when he's played, he's not that anymore but he still knows what he's doing and is a good piece. And he's a fan favorite.

Side note: He has the same agent as G-Force, so that could help with one or the other or both later on, idk.

Allen, ehh, idk. I think we can get what we need in the late 1st with what we have, but that's just me.

BTW, good to see something readable from TBR

What about drafting Earrrrrrrrrrlllllllllllll Clark at 12th, trade our two 2nds to move up into the late 1st round (say the Griz at 27th or Thunder at 25th) and draft Danny Green?

I'd still do the Nazr for MoPete swap.

    Felton/DJ/Jefferson
    Raja/Green/MoPete
    Crash/Vlad/Clark
    Boris/Clark/May/Ajinca
    Mek/Gana

IMO that'd easily be the best lineup we've ever put on the court.
