    Default Cats Stats ranking

Well yesterday I was killing time and was responding to a thread where someone was stating we should get rid of Wallace for Ariza. I laughed. So I did a little research on comparing the numbers of the two.

So then I was curious as to how many of our players ranked in the top 50 in the NBA for an Individual Stat. Some were a little surprising to me, so figured since I had the shit written out already I would share.

    Scoring : Wallace #42
    Assists: Felts # 13, Diaw #38, DJ #47
    Blocks: Okafor #12, Wallace #32, Diop #42
    Dbl/Dbl: Okafor #8 , Wallace #28
    Efficiency: Wallace #26, Okafor #48th
    FG%: Okafor #6, Diaw # 19, Wallace # 40
    Rebounds: Okafor #5, Wallace #22
    P/R/A : Wallace # 41
    Steals: Wallace 6, Felton 11th
    3pt% : DJ 9, Bell 15, Diaw 21, Vlad 36th
    FT% : DJ 6th

I was going to do it for just the Eastern Conference but figured that we all know the majority of the talent is out west, so I figured this would give a better idea of where our players stand. Again the is the top 50 and where our guys rank.

    Not to shabby.

Great info. As I read this, I had this thought...

If you consider that the top 30 should ideally be the top player from each if there was perfect parity in the league. Obviously there is not but this could help us see where we need an upgrade, statistically speaking.

Our strongest positions, using this data, would be:

Dbl -Dbls with Okafor and Wallace both in the top 30.
FG% with Okafor and Diaw both in the top 30.
Rebounds again with Okafor and Wallace in the top 30.
    Steals with Wallace and Felton.
3Pt% with 3 guys in the top 21! DJ, Raja and Diaw.

There is so much talk of needing to trade Okafor though he is in the top 12 in the league in Dbl Dbls, FG% and Rebounds. This also shows how important Wallace and Diaw are to the team. Are we really so sure that we can't try next season with Wallace, Diaw and Okafor as the 3,4,5. As much talk as there is about getting a PF or trading Okafor, I just think we should be patient with the core we have and I feel like these stats seem to prove the same.

The biggest negative I see is that our highest scorer on the team (Wallace) is #42 and our only player in the top 50. I would venture a guess that all teams have at least 1 scorer in the top 30 and about 2/3 of the league have 2. Long story short, if we are addressing anythingspecific, I think it should be scoring.

Also, I love great defense as much as anyone but we have to put the ball in the hole a little more and we should keep that in mind for the draft and the off-season in general.

I agree, I think depth is the issue this year. We saw what an injury with raja, diaw etc does to us.

If you break the scoring stat down to just eastern conf. we have 5 players in the top 50 in scoring. ( Wallace, Felts, Diaw, Oak and DJ ) but again I was interested in the full picture.

But if we can get a Healthy May, Maybe something for Nazr, a Determined Okafor, Un-concusioned Wallace. Find another solid bench players as I didnt care for Big DJ and Cartier ( although Cartier could be decent with some more time).

I say we cut a few of the slots and replace with fresh faces before pre-season. I would hate to be shipping players in and out after the all-star break while making a playoff run. We need our team on the same page soon as possible.

Off the stats above, we need another scorer, all the players need to work on their FT% ( DJ our rookie was the only cat in the top 50)

Look how many times we lost by 1-5 points last year,, if they can make more FTs and if we could add another scorer we are a playoff contender. But we need to add a solid scorer to have a chance to win, and getting mek slamming the ball down the opponents throats.

Wallace and Mek have solid stats,, but the fire in Meks belly needs to be cranked up a notch.

That makes me feel a little better hearing how they stat up against the East. But, that is still only 5 of the top 100 players according to your breakdown so we still need to improve.

    Again, great stats...

I do like that we have three in the top 50 for assists despite only having one guy in the top 50 in scoring.
    SOMEONE will pay for THIS!

We have 5 starter's averaging atleast above or just below 15/pts a game. Thats 75 pts. I think Raja and Wallace's averages will go up next year. Diaw is a wild card some nights. We need some people to come off the bench giving us 20-25 pts or so a game. DJ put in 12/pts a game but after that no one really did anything. Vlad started out good but didn't have a good ending to the year. In 6 games Dontell Jefferson averaged more pts then Morrison did in 44 games. Bottom line is we still have no bench production.

As long as NC has a team, I'm going to cheer for it
