    Default Welcome, Derrick Brown!

Since I'm less than enamored with 12, Derrick is the only saving grace from the draft. From the the things I looked at, it seems that Derrick could turn out to be the special player I wanted to come out of this draft, since we passed on one at 12.

His numbers at Xavier this past season were damn impressive, especially his shooting percentages at 51% from the field, an eye opening 43% from 3, and a decent 74% from the line. He was 2nd on the team in PPG, 1st in RPG, 3rd in SPG and BPG.

The kiss of death is that Chad Ford "loves this pick for the Bobcats," but then again, he can be right once in a while, right?

    LB on the main site...

    (On Derrick Brown)
Our scouts had him 20th on our board. We brought him back for a second workout so Rod (Higgins) and Michael (Jordan) could see him again. We went into the draft hoping to get a 2, a 2/3, or a 3 man. Now, we have a young backup three. He’s long, he can handle it, and he can shoot it a little bit. We got two character kids. It is almost like last year. When we tested out the rookies D.J. (Augustin) and Alexis (Ajinca) last year, they were really high, top kids. It is keeping with what we were hoping for. We had no idea to expect him to be there.
He was 20th on our board? Assuming our scouts aren't total idiots that's a heckuva steal for a 40th pick.

Looking forward to seeing him play.

Lets just ponder that thought for a moment - shall we?

Only kidding. We do need a back up for Crash so hopefully this kid pans out. I don't know him from Adam, but hopefully he does end up being a steal for us.

He has a very solid game and if he comes to camp determined to make the team he will make the team...I think he's a good pick (and a definite steal at #40)...I'll be glad to have him here...

NBAdraft.net gave us an A for our draft...this is their quote...

"These are two great, ready-to-play picks for a team that desperately needed some help on the wings. Henderson should be a long-term starter and Brown provides great versatility, capable of guarding three positions. They also sold Oklahoma City the rights to the No. 54 pick, Robert Vaden."

Even Chad Ford gave us a good draft rating...B+
    CHARLOTTE BOBCATS GRADE: B+

    Round 1: Gerald Henderson (12)
Round 2: Derrick Brown (40, via Nets and Thunder)
Analysis: The Bobcats had a nice, solid draft. Henderson is a really good fit in Charlotte and should eventually be able to replace Raja Bell. He's a great athlete and he can really defend. Brown was a great value in the second round, a terrific athlete who can play both the 3 and the 4.
Overall the Bobcats helped themselves with solid picks who may not be superstars but who could both be in the league a long time.

I think we really did get deeper...

    I am pleased with him.
Seems to be a Larry Brown player, and the fact he is a Power Forward that can shoot threes means he can help us match up with Orlando.
I wish we could have gotten Blair here though....

Ford actually gives us a B+ for the Draft. And he hates Charlotte.

didnt know a whole lot about him. watched some videos, read a couple things. so im no scout on this. But ... he looks to have a really slow release on his shot, and maybe a bit slow on the draw. However neither is Boris Diaw, and he sure gets the job done. And while he may seem slow, hes very atheletic jumping and playing above the rim better than Diaw already.

I like the pick, seems to be good value that late and he will be learning from some good 3/4 tweeners in Diaw and Wallace. I gotta say I'm pleasantly pleased with this draft. maybe a B-

I am pleased with this draft. Sure Terrence Williams and Derrick Brown would've been better...but Henderson is still a pretty solid player for the spot. At least we didn't pull the trigger on someone like Tyler Hansbrough (as much of a fan as I am, he will not be a good NBA Player).
