I don't see why anybody is complaining about it?

He got to where he is (the Greatest of All Time) by being the most competitive person in the game. He wouldn't have made it if he didn't spend his entire career overcoming naysayers and detractors. Do you really expect that competitive spirit to not carry over off the court?

It's the same thing that makes people not like Kobe. They say he has a bad attitude and everything when he's just the fiercest competitor in the game and is willing to do whatever it takes to win.

The whole point of his speech was to thank everybody who doubted him. It was his final statement to prove everybody wrong because he made the last step in his journey as a player--the HOF. Now nobody can doubt him or say he isn't the greatest.

Stop hating on Mike. You all appreciated his fierce competitiveness ON the court. Time to appreciate it OFF the court.

He's just being MJ, guys. Chill. If anyone is entitled to it, he is.

exactly. he is who he is. why would you expect him to act otherwise during his acceptance speech? if he had given some mooshy speech he might have been accused of being phony. so you cant really win.

give the guy credit for being who he is, and consistently showing it.

I have no problem with MJ's statements.

As for the Russell thing, when you are on top, everyone wants to knock you off. Jordan hasn't played in many years and Russell still sounds like he is the one who is holding a grudge. Russell can talk about the push off and say that he is proud to be part of that play...I call BS. Jordan hit the game winner over Russell and it sounds like Russell has never recovered.

Do you guys really see some type of inconsistency with MJ? I say he is as consistent as ever.

MJ can be as cocky as he want's to be, he is the greatest to ever play the game and he knows it.

i just rewatched it and i actually think it was a pretty sincere speech, he was being funny at times thought that may not be conveyed as well. i think he just didnt want to make it all mooshy since to him it means the real end of his basketball career.

notice he prefaces by saying that we know all the details about his life..so i think he really just wanted to open up and give us an insight on his motivators.

I agree. I thought it was fine; just telling stories of the good ol' days. He could have done speeches like Robinson or Stockton (both great, I thought), but he decided to just tell some tales. The reaction has been much ado about nothing, methinks.
